WELCOME TO CROSBY KINDERGARTEN'S G.R.I.P. HOME PAGE.

Hello!  My name is Phyllis Gilliam, and if your child has entered our program, I am your child's Kindergarten GRIP teacher.   This is my 16th year to teach in Crosby ISD.   My first 12 years, I taught in a regular classroom and this is my fourth year to teach in the GRIP reading pull-out program.

I LOVE TEACHING!

IDEAS FOR PARENTS:

Read to your child every night.
Practice naming letters and their sounds.
Practice/play rhyming games.
Practice making new words by deleting the first or last sounds from words.

G.R.I.P. stands for "Greater Reading Instructional Program" and is Crosby's version of the Accelerated Reading Instruction Program required by the State of Texas.

Crosby Kindergarten through 5th Grade offers GRIP, or Reading assistance, classes to those students who have been identified as needing more individualized teaching time in the area of "reading".

In Kindergarten, we work on recognizing letters and sounds, using sounds to blend and read words, phonemic awareness activities, rhyming, and sharing books.

Our goal is always to provide assistance as soon as any child is experiencing difficulty in obtaining the necessary skills to make him or her a successful reader. We provide 20-45 minutes daily, of intense one-on-one or small group activities to assist our students in achieving success.

If it is offered by the District, we strongly recommend that your child attend summer school if he or she has not exited the GRIP program by the end of the school year.

Thanks so much for visiting my site. I hope the information you find here is helpful . If you would like to e-mail me, my address is: pgilliam@crosby.isd.esc4.net

In January, 2004, Mrs. Sarai Miller joined our GRIP program as the Bilingual Aide.  She is invaluable in serving the Spanish-speaking children in our Kindergarten, to ensure that  "No Child is Left Behind."
